This and That 07-28-12

Just Another Douglas Wilson Quote… – Biblical submission prohibits rendering to any creature the absolute submission that belongs only to God. – Doug Wilson

Gay is Not the New Black – It is very important for those of us who oppose the idea of same-sex “marriage” to do so not because we wish to preserve our version of the American Dream, but because we view marriage as a living, breathing picture of the relationship between Christ and his church (Eph. 5:22ff), and because we know that God has designed the family in a particular way. While the design of the family promotes human thriving (Gen 1:27-28), the testimony points people to their only hope in this life and the next. As a result, silence on this issue is not an option. – Voddie Baucham

Alderman going overboard on Chick-Fil-A bullying – The problem with this sanctimonious dissing of Chick-fil-A is that there is no proof the business has discriminated against gay couples, let alone any of its customers or employees.  In fact, company executives assured Moreno they would leave the debate about gay rights to the politicians and government.  But those assurances apparently aren’t good enough.  Moreno is attempting to deny Chick-fil-A the right to do business in the 1st Ward because he doesn’t like Cathy’s religious beliefs, and that’s just wrong.  Do these same rules apply to business owners that are Muslims, Jews, Catholics, and Jehovah’s Witnesses? I mean, what the heck happened to religious freedom? – Mary Mitchell

Dark Night – What is always left out of this familiar scenario is an in-depth discussion of evil. Politicians and commentators almost never speak of evil as something that resides deep inside the human heart. All humans possess the capacity for evil. While it rarely rises to the level of mass murder, the capacity for doing great harm to other human beings lurks within each of us. This is what theologians mean when they speak of a “fallen” humanity. – Cal Thomas
