This and That 06-30-12

I Don’t Own My Child’s Body – Forcing children to touch people when they don’t want to leaves them vulnerable to sexual abusers, most of whom are people known to the children they abuse, according to Ursula Wagner, a mental health clinician with the FamilyWorks program at Heartland Alliance in Chicago. None of the child victims of sexual abuse or assault she’s counseled was attacked by strangers, she said. – Katia Hetter

Dignity, Respect Central to Building Bipartisanship – Both sides must acknowledge that the other political party is not the enemy. Differing perspectives and contrasting ideas are critically important to the legislative process. We need to foster a healthy marketplace of ideas to address big challenges such as job creation and retention, education, student debt and a rising senior population, to name a few. – Tim Cullen and Dale Schultz

Barack Obama: The 50 Facts You Might not Know – He collects Spider-Man and Conan the Barbarian comics; While on the campaign trail he refused to watch CNN and had sports channels on instead; He applied to appear in a black pin-up calendar while at Harvard but was rejected by the all-female committee;  He took Michelle to see the Spike Lee film Do The Right Thing on their first date; He doesn’t drink coffee and rarely drinks alcohol; He repaid his student loan only four years ago after signing his book deal; His speciality as a cook is chilli. –  Jon Swaine

Why We Don’t Send Our Kids To VBS – First, understand that there is a difference in trusting in a prayer and trusting in Jesus for salvation.  More attention is often given to the child repeating a prayer than to them understanding what Christ did for them and what it really means. – Jeremy Wallace

The Calviedispiebaptogelical Song (Sung to the tune of I am the Very Model of A Modern Major General)  – I am what you’d call a Calviedispiebaptogelical, That tells you where I take a stand on matters theological, I can exegete from Scripture doctrines that are biblical, And show that there are seven ages that are dispensational; I’ll demonstrate that Luther’s views were altogether Scriptural, And then demolish arguments that clearly are heretical, Including those of long ago that were set forth by Arius, Found today in modern cults that simply are nefarious – Rick Gomez
