Let’s Give Senator Kohl A Visit

Dear Friends,

Like many of you, I had mixed emotions concerning the election of Barack Obama.  While one side of me was thrilled to see our country finally able to elect an African-American to the White House, I was at the same time deeply troubled by the direction this man wanted to take our country.  I still am concerned about the ultimate rejection of the values, principles and spiritual heritage upon which our country was founded.

Yet, eight months later, I am filled with hope.  No, not the “hope” promised during the campaign.  Americans by the thousands are waking up from their political slumber and apathy.  They are speaking out.  Average men and women who have never before spoken out are now getting involved.  The extreme socialistic views of this administration have jarred us into action.

We the People are making themselves heard!  By the thousands, we flocked to the tea parties to voice our outrage.  With homemade signs and a little old-fashioned patriotism, we stood together to make it clear that we were fed-up!

Unfortunately, the politicians in Washington and Madison decided not to listen.  The main stream media decided to mock us.  So, the movement quickly died.  No!  Instead of giving up, we went straight to the politicians themselves.  If they won’t come to us, we will go to them.

It has been all over the news lately.  While Congress is home from the August recess, many of our legislators have been holding town meetings and listening tours to hear what the people have to say.  Such a move only serves as a call-to-arms for American patriots not willing to surrender to forces of socialism.  We flooded these meetings and shouted down any attempt to silence our cries for freedom from government tyranny.

So, what has been the reaction of those in power? Some Congressmen (included my own – Tammy Baldwin) have decided to not to conduct such meetings or even cancel previously scheduled ones.  We are now accused of organizing fake anger and manufactured outrage.  Since when is organizing citizens to speak out effectively a bad thing?  Have we forgotten that the very President who wishes to silence us got his start in politics as a community organizer in Chicago?   Do they want to hear us or not? Apparently not.

But, this cannot stop us.  As the number of concerned American patriots who stand against socialism rises, the left has begun their own organizing.  Just this afternoon I received the following e-mail from the Obama administration (yes, I’m on their list):

Kevin —

All throughout August, our members of Congress are back in town. Insurance companies and partisan attack groups are stirring up fear with false rumors about the President’s plan, and it’s extremely important that folks like you speak up now.

So we’ve cooked up an easy, powerful way for you to make a big impression: Office Visits for Health Reform.

All this week, OFA members like you will be stopping by local congressional offices to show our support for insurance reform. You can have a quick conversation with the local staff, tell your personal story, or even just drop off a customized flyer and say that reform matters to you.

We’ll provide everything you need: the address, phone number, and open hours for the office, information about how the health care crisis affects your state for you to drop off (with the option of adding your personal story), and a step-by-step guide for your visit.

According to our records, you live near Sen. Herb Kohl’s office in Madison, WI.

Sign up now to visit Sen. Herb Kohl’s office in Madison this week.(Not your representative, or think there might be another office that’s easier for you to get to? Click here to find a different office.)

As you’ve probably seen in the news, special interest attack groups are stirring up partisan mobs with lies about health reform, and it’s getting ugly. Across the country, members of Congress who support reform are being shouted down, physically assaulted, hung in effigy, and receiving death threats. We can’t let extremists hijack this debate, or confuse Congress about where the people stand.

Office Visits for Health Reform are our chance to show that the vast majority of American voters know that the cost of inaction is too high to bear, and strongly support passing health reform in 2009.

Don’t worry if you’ve never done anything like this before. The congressional staff is there to listen, and your opinion as a constituent matters a lot. And if you bring a friend, you’ll have more fun and make an even greater impact.

Wherever you live, these visits matter: Many representatives are pushing hard toward reform, and they are taking a lot of heat from special interests. They deserve our thanks and need our support to continue the fight. But those who are still putting insurance companies and partisan point-scoring ahead of their constituents must know that voters are watching — and that we expect better.

Earlier this week, the President wrote that “this is the moment our movement was built for” and asked us all to commit to join at least one event this month. This is the way to answer that call, and rise to the challenge of this moment together.

Thank you for going the extra mile when it matters the most,

Mitch Stewart
Organizing for America

This seems an awful lot like organizing people for a certain political agenda.  This seems an awful lot like what we are accused of…  But, this is not something that should discourage us in the least.  I am 100% convinced that the principles of capitalism, freedom and liberty can hold up to any challenge or debate.  Bring it on!

I for one took the White House up on their offer.  I click on the link and made an appointment with Senator Kohl’s office.  This Thursday morning I will express my outrage at the unconstitutional, tyrannical, unethical and immoral White House healthcare proposal.  Now, I’m not sure that is what they will be expecting from someone who made their appointment through a White House website, but that is exactly what they are going to get from me!

I would ask you to consider doing the same thing.  Click on the link and make an appointment yourself.  Let’s continue the fight by taking it right to their office.  It’s harder to ignore someone who has made an appointment and is standing right in front of you.

I would be happy to provide more information concerning the perils of this healthcare proposal to anyone who is interested.  Let’s not stop now!  Make your voice be heard!  It’s what America is all about!

Liberty is Worth the Fight!

Because of Grace,

Kevin Thompson
