Understanding Our Times: Entitlements with Pastor Dan Gibson

Our Declaration of Independence recognizes that there are rights that we all have, given to us by our Creator. Yet, some two hundred years later, Americans are now demanding even more rights, but not rights granted by God. These “rights have been granted by our federal government. Such rights would include a right to education, a right to social security and more recently a right to affordable health insurance. We call them entitlements. Join us this week as we discuss entitlements from both Biblical and constitutional perspectives. Our guest host this week is Dan Gibson, pastor of the Covenant Reformed Presbyterian Church in Janesville, WI.

Spiritual Emphasis Resources

Recently, Rock County Christian School, has developed a new page on their website for spiritual maturity resouces – http://rccs.us/Resources%20SM%20Team.htm.  As I am on the Spiritual Maturity Board, I was asked to list some resources that may be helpful for others.  So, here are the first of my contributions:

Website:  http://www.desiringgod.org/ResourceLibrary/AskPastorJohn/

“Ask Pastor John” is a website I check very often.  Pastor John Piper is one of my favorite author/theologians and is known for his God-centered perspective.  This site contains specific questions on many different subjects (i.e. theology, parenting, evangelism, spiritual growth, ect…) sent in by people just like you.  I think you find Pastor Piper’s answers to be Biblical, applicable, and worth the read.

Book:  The Cross-Centered Life by C.J. Mahaney

The short book will challenge you to live a life that is centered upon the Cross of Christ.  So often we think the good news of the gospel becomes old news once we have accepted Christ.  This book reminds us that the gospel is to be an everyday reminder of our sinfulness and God’s great grace.

Video:  The Blind Side

While this is not a movie made by Christians, both the family and school that are the focus of the film are.  This family-friendly flick highlights the need for adoption and helps us to realize how our lives are influenced by others.

Understanding Our Times: The Glory Walk with Pastor James Wilkes

Join us this week as we discuss the Glory Walk, a newly released book written by Pastor James R. Wilkes of New England Baptist Church in West Bridgewater, MA.  This book seeks to encourage Christians to “live in the bigger picture of God’s kingdom with God’s purposes in view.”  In other words, it is time to forsake the life that glorifies self and embrace the life that is centered on glorifying God.  “Living on purpose for the glory of God” will be our topic of conversation this week.   This is a live broadcast and your phone calls are welcomed. You can also join us live in the chatroom and leave your comments there.
