I Officially Endorse Ron Paul in the Republican Primary
January 30, 2008 by Kevin Thompson
Tom Tancredo: After having listened to his address to the 2007 CPAC convention, I was sold. Here’s a guy who actually sounded like a conservative, with overtones of Ronald Reagan. I actually did run up to New Hampshire to do some campaigning for the man. However, one thing did bother me about Tancredo – his view on the war. But, I am convinced, had he been in the White House in 2003, we would not be in Iraq today. However, Tom dropped out of the race long before I could ever cast my vote. Then he did the unthinkable – endorsed Mitt Romney. That dropped Tancredo a few points in my book.
Mike Huckabee: I love this man. Here is a Christian who speaks like a Christian! After hearing a few of his messages, I noticed he was echoing some of the same themes I heralded in my run for Congress. Wonderful! I have donated to his campaign, gone to two of his rallies, and even held signs for him. On the moral issues, Huckabee is great. However, on the economic side of the equation – he is terrible. He raised taxes several times as governor, supports in-state tuition for illegal immigrants, and does not quite understand the limitations the Constitution places on the federal government. That ended it for me.
Alan Keyes: Who can’t love Alan Keyes! I think the man is great. His views on the UN and the war bother me some, but not enough to take him out of consideration. He is an inspiration to listen to and takes a very strong pro-life stance. However, the way he is conducting his current bid for the Presidency does force me from going all out for the guy. He began by announcing his plan for national review, even to the extent of asking for seed money. I am a Baptist preacher, but even I think that sounds a little odd. In fact, it sounds more like a tv evangelist than a serious contender. If Alan runs with the Constitution Party, I will support him.
That leaves Dr. Ron Paul. I have been impressed with Dr. Paul from day one. He is the only candidate that has a true commitment to the Constitution. Even since jumping into the national spotlight, he has not compromised or wavered in his convictions one bit. There is only one candidate who answers questions honestly and thoroughly. His candor is refreshing.
I love his view on taxes – abolish the income tax and replace it with nothing! He understands that Congress does not need the revenue the income tax generates, if it were to go back to Constitutional spending only! He understands that the federal government has no right to act outside of what the Constitution calls for – those things being left to the states. He has NEVER voted for a tax increase, an unbalanced budget or a congressional pay increase.
As for moral issues, Ron Paul is the only man left standing for what is right. Folks like Huckabee and Romney say they are pro-life, but where were they when Ron Paul introduced the Sanctity of Life Act before the Congress? This bill would have recognized life beginning at conception, giving us more empowerment to protect the unborn. Where were all the other candidates waiting to sign their name in support? Other candidates speak at pro-life rallies and put on a good show. Ron Paul is the only man brave enough to take real action to effect real change.
On February 5, I will cast my vote for Congressman Ron Paul. I pray that you will consider doing the same.

I commend your endorsement! I hope that you have enough supporters that your endorsement can give some help to Dr. Pauls campaign. It’s also helpful to know that there are indeed other like minded individuals either running for or already in congress, because of the fact is if Dr. Paul does make it into the White House many of the changes he wants to make won’t be possible without congressional support.
So, good luck with your own campaign too.

Huh!? You are endorsing Ron Paul now? Maybe should have done that before people started voting when at least could pretend Ron Paul had a chance. Ron Paul will not win one state let alone the Republican Presidential nomination.
Ron Paul nuts really need to get a clue.
We have blogged number of times on Ron Paul at Shadow Democarcy…

Who is Kevin Thomspon and why should middle America care who he endorses? And why would anyone with a brain endorse a guy who is at this point very irrelevant?
Too bad he’s going to get obliterated in the primaries…oh wait…he already is..
[...] initial impressions of word press is that it seems like most of the blogs are rants about the us presidential election, people ranting about religion or how amazing Ireland apparently is, but it [...]
All right!! Great thought process and these that leave immature remarks need to go study b/c we want them to vote for the man who will make their future more worthwhile! Ron Paul has the USA’s best interests in mind.
Mr. Thompson, God Bless You for your serious concern and contemplation. I have also prayed and meditated on this and am astonished that citizens are not aware of the nitty-gritty issues we face not only as Americans, but Christians trying to live up to our obligations. Ron Paul is the only one, across the board, who fulfills the requisites of knowing for what this country stands.
God Help Us, Please!
Wow … what’s wrong with people, that they feel the need to put up some of these comments?
Maybe they didn’t listen when their mothers told them, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”
I left the Republican party in 1995, for much the same reasons you listed. I’m a Huckabee guy, myself, though I do admire Ron Paul for his strength and convictions.
You’ve got yourself a new reader, by the way.
Yayyyyyy! Thank you.
Every time I hear someone say Dr. Paul is crazy, I ask:
“How so? Tell me. No really I’d like to know what you think.”
You know what? Either they can’t answer because they don’t know who the man is at all, or they repeat some talking point from the mainstream media, who’s scared to death of him, OR they complain about some political stance Dr. Paul doesn’t even hold. It’s weird.
Dr. Paul is the ONLY one who will get us out of the Middle East and heal our relationship with the rest of the world. Everyone else is a warmonger, a flipflopper or a bald faced liar.
I’d hate to be forced to face the realization that “people get the government they deserve.” America already TRIED the guy they’d like to have a beer with and it was a DISASTER. Maybe this time we should vote for the ONE man running who actually knows what he’s talking about when he talks about government and finance. Really: The man is a scholar and he’s been published several times. I have one of his books and his policies are very well thought out.
Besides, they guy delivered 4000 babies and his patients LOVE HIM. What better endorsement is there? He gets my vote.
I would like to invite you to post your reply to an open question to all believers, on my blog:

I am asking in all sincerity, because I do actually want to understand differing view points, and since you seem quite certain of your faith, I feel your input would be relevant.
Just wante dto let you guys know that CNN just censored my remarks posted to their website about my feelings toward their completely biased moderation of the event and the fact that Ron Paul and Huckabee were completely left out… my post was not offensive, completely respectful, educated and well written. How many other posts were censored tonight? Hedonistic (poster above) hit the nail on the head - people only know of Ron Paul what they hear through the media (as the guy who posted a link above that Paul being anti-semitic and a racist) - his 20 years in office has disproved that 10 times over and when the head of the NAACP publicly defends Paul, wouldn’t that make you take asecond glance at the info coming through CNN, FOX and MSNBC? Most people didn’t even hear that the head of the NAACP stepped up to the plate for him!
Let me tell you something - if any of you have read a very short educational economics book called “Economics in One Lesson” by Henry Hazlitt, you’ll see why Paul is the least crazy of them all - I have to be honest with you, most of the Paul Supporters I meet are not crazy in the slightest, but very well educated INDEPENDENT thinkers - they don’t take spoon fed censored info from the media. For people to still be ok with the media after the blatant biased tone of tonights debate, all I can say is “Shame on you!” for staying in the dark…
Hello! Glad to see that you were able to strike out and break the two-party hold on you!
lostloveletters—I have had the exact same experience with the CNN links in the dashboard. I don’t even click on them anymore b/c it only upsets me to know the ‘dumbing down’ has, indeed, taken hold. Some of the commenters are so blatantly ILL-informed that it’s just too much to believe. It doesn’t take a genius to “understand” when someone is sincerely dedicated to the USA and not his wallet, though. It’s like trying to explain to some of my students that going to school is a personal gain, not a punishment (but at least they’re kids). I also will reiterate your point that some very highly educated and enlightened groups and individuals endorse Dr. Paul! Instead of denigrating him w/out reading his material the public needs to be informed—to really know what goes on in ‘global’ politics!

Bill Moyers (Journal, PBS) did a segment last week about the monopoly of the airwaves and how limited the info is that the public receives. If they (ALL the media!) were giving Dr. Paul the ‘fair and balanced reporting’ they claim, we wouldn’t be so exasperated!

Godspeed!
