What would Christmas be like for America without Chinese-made products? Why not try? We’ve been asking readers and listeners for many months to stop buying “Made in China.” Now when we tell storekeepers that we don’t touch these products and haven’t for years, we’re getting more favorable responses like, “I don’t blame you. You’re right.”
Could children have a happy Christmas without Chinese-made toys? Now that Americans have been alerted to the fact that many of these toys have been found to be coated with lead-based paints that could be fatal if ingested, this might just be the year that parents will decide that Christmas toys made in China are just not worth the risk.
Someone has said that the more expensive the toy, the more likely the child is to play with the box it came in. Where did we ever get the idea that children must have a dozen or more factory-made toys at Christmas in order to enjoy the day? Maybe some innovative parents could even make something very special for their children for Christmas. Maybe some mothers could sew something very special for her child at Christmas. My wife made an Indian costume for her granddaughter a while back and excited the little girl to no end—later she even won a contest in a parade when she wore it.
What if you were poor like some of us were and Christmas meant receiving some necessary item of new clothing and perhaps one game from a relative? It was still a very special day, for the meaning of the day, the birthday of the Savior, not just gifts, made it the most special day of the year. Festivities included Christmas carols, Christmas Eve church service, decorations, and dinner with the family—aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
Lest we forget, we reported earlier on products coming out of Communist Red China that have been found to be dangerous to the life and health of the users in various countries. Some years ago, over 70 children died in Haiti. Through much investigation, Americans operating through the Centers for Disease Control, finally found that cough medicine from China was the cause of the deaths. Earlier this year, 6,000 tubes of Chinese imported toothpaste were seized in Nicaragua after reports that 51 Panamanians had died from the use of this toothpaste containing ethylene glycol.
Everyone heard of the Mattel toy recall a short time ago. Nine million Chinese-imported Batman, Barbie, and Polly Pocket toys were recalled by that company because of the potential danger to health of children from tiny magnets and lead paint. A million and a half Fisher Price infant toys made in China were recalled for the lead paint threat to health. There have been many reports exposing contaminated Red Chinese imports, from pet foods which are suspect in the deaths of thousands of animals, to tooth paste, medicine, vegetable protein, vitamins, tea leaves and tainted honey.
It’s past time that Americans recognize: First, that Communist China is NOT a friend but have declared that we are their worst enemy who must be destroyed; Second, that standards of production of foods, toothpaste, or whatever in China are not equivalent to those of the United States; and Third, the extreme trade imbalance between the U.S. and China is leading to the ultimate showdown with the determined Communists to overthrow us financially as well as militarily.
Badly needed for American leadership—wisdom and vision to understand the dangers we face. This is the Constitution Party’s continued plea as we face a very crucial election year in 2008. Why not join us?
