The Small Government Offer: a Deal Too Good to Refuse
October 25, 2007 by Kevin Thompson
From Carla Howell & Michael Cloud
Dear Friend,
“Voters rarely get a chance to vote for smaller government. Most of
the time they’ve been offered a choice only between Democrats and
Republicans - both of whom keep government growing,” wrote Harry
Browne.
“What if voters were given a clear-cut choice?
“What if they could vote “yes” or “no” on Big Government - and know
that their vote would make a difference?
“What if they were offered the opportunity to give up their own
subsidies in exchange for an immediate and enormous reduction in the
burden of government?” asks Harry Browne in ‘The Great Libertarian
Offer.’
Big Government politicians and pundits claim that voters would reject
the Small Government Offer.
“Everybody would like lower taxes,” say the defenders of Big
Government, “but they want their government services and benefits even
more. Taxpayers are just complaining. They don’t really want smaller
government.”
Three national polls prove otherwise.
“Would you rather have government as it is today, or would you rather
have smaller government with fewer services and lower taxes?” asked
the polls.
“55% favor smaller government with fewer services, as opposed to a
larger government with many services.”
- ‘Los Angeles Times’ poll, September 2003
“64% prefer smaller government with fewer services and lower taxes.”
-Rasmussen poll, February 2004
“50% prefer smaller government with fewer services.”
-ABC News/Washington Post poll, June 2004
Our first END the Income Tax Ballot Initiative in Massachusetts in
2002 supports the poll results.
With hostile Boston News Media opposing us, with only $89,000 in
advertising, we got 885,683 votes - 45.3%.
If every voter in Massachusetts had heard our evidence and arguments -
and the opposition’s - we would have won in a landslide.
Now you and we have a second chance to END the Income Tax. A rematch.
Here’s the Small Government Offer:
“You have a choice. You can vote “yes” to END the state income tax. Or
you can vote “no” to KEEP the state income tax.
“If you vote “yes”, you are voting to END the state income tax and
give back over $3,600 each to over 3,000,000 Massachusetts workers -
including you. $3,600 average. Each worker. Not just once. Every year.
Your “yes” vote will roll back state government spending to the 1995
budget level. $17 Billion a year.
“If you vote “no”, you are voting to KEEP the state income tax and
require 3,000,000 Massachusetts workers - including you - to pay
$3,600 each year in income taxes. $3,600 average. Each worker. Not
just once. Every year. Your “no” vote will keep this year’s state
government spending at $28 Billion this year.”
This is the Small Government Offer.
An Offer the voters won’t refuse.
Only one thing stands in our way right now.
When we began, we needed 100,000+ signatures. We needed almost
$170,000 total for signature gathering, validating, and delivering
petitions to 351 town clerks.
Today, after 41 days of hard work, we have collected 57,267 petition
signatures. 42,067 in house. Another 15,200 in the pipeline. We have
57,267.
We have received $101,179.69. From 372 donors.
Our petition turn-in deadline is Wednesday, November 14th. We have
only 21 days left.
We need to collect, count, validate, and pay for 42,733 more petition
signatures.
We need to raise $69,000 to pay for this.
We’ve collected 57% of the signatures. By next Thursday, we can be
over 70% done.
We have only 21 days left to do the job.
We’ve raised the money to pay for the signatures we’ve already
received and counted.
We’ve telephoned, mailed, and emailed people who want to END the
Income Tax. Maybe we called you.
Over 372 people like you have already donated to END the Income Tax.
We need you to join them. Your donation is critically important right
now. We are so close.
You can move us closer to the finish line by donating $500 or $250 or
$150 today. Will you, please?
Perhaps you’re doing well financially - and want to END the Income
Tax. Would you make a generous donation of $5,000 or $2,500 or $1,000

budget your money, and make affordable donations. Will you please
donate an affordable $85 or $65 or $45 today?
